Ben Stokes Reacts After England Lose Ashes To Australia, Says, 'It Sucks...'

Ashes 2025: England captain Ben Stokes admitted on Sunday that it "sucks" to lose this Test series within 11 days and has promised to make a brilliant comeback in the last two matches of this series. Their performance in the last three matches is quite different from what the hype was before this series, as the host outperformed them in all departments. "We came here with a goal in mind, and we've not been able to achieve that. It hurts, and it sucks, but we ain't going to stop," Stokes told reporters in the post-match press conference.

The visitors did put up some fight, which Stokes had asked them to in the third Test, which they lost by 82 runs while chasing a mammoth target of 435 runs.

"I think the boys were excellent today. They showed some great application," Brendon McCullum said.

"They bounced off each other and tried to take the game as deep as they could. We didn't get there, but I thought it was a fine achievement," he added.

Although they did put up some fight in Adelaide after losing matches in Perth and Brisbane, the visitors have failed to perform in crunch situations.

Stokes revealed that the main difference between the two teams was "constant execution" as they failed to face Australia's brilliant bowlers.

"Australia has just been able to execute things on a way more consistent basis than us. Both with the ball and the bat, and in the field. They've been able to outdo us on a much higher level," he added.

McCullum lauded the host for making better decisions under pressure. "For us, from the get-go, it has never been about scoring rates. It is about respecting what is coming at you, being present in the moment. You identify what the levels of risk are, but what the opportunities are, and how to counter them. Be able to apply pressure when you need to and absorb pressure when you need to. I don't think we have got that balance right in the previous encounters in the series. If we had cottoned on to that earlier, then we would have been more competitive," he concluded.
