India vs New Zealand 1st Test: Indian captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with the bat in the second innings of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Friday.

After a horrible outing in the furst iunnings, Rohit smashed a remarkable half-century but the celebrations were cut short with his unusual dismissal that left him in despair.

In the 22nd over of India's second innings, Rohit quietly defended a delivery off Ajaz Patel. The ball bounced very close to him and went below his bat to hit the stumps.

Rohit, along with Indian fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, had a disappointing reaction as the skipper looked set for a big knock but departed for 52 runs in 63 balls on the back if eight fours and a six.

India were bowled out for just 46 runs in their first innings after opting to bat first and Rohit scored just two runs in 16 deliveries.

On the other hand, the Blackcaps came up with an incredible response and scored 402 runs in their first innings before getting bowled out early on the third day in 91.3 overs.

They took a first-inning lead of 356 runs with the help of a phenomenal century from Rachin Ravindra. He played a memorable knock of 134 runs, smashing 13 fours and four sixes.

While Devon Conway (91) missed out on his century, Tim Southee made a crucial contribution of 65 runs.
