IND vs WI: The BCCI has revealed India's squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies beginning from October 2. The first Test match will be held in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Karun Nair was one of the notable ommission whereas vice-captain Rishabh Pant has been dropped owing to an injury as per chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who had announced the 15-memer squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies. Ravindra Jadeja has replaced him as the vice-captain of the team for this series.
Nair, who made a brilliant comeback in India's Test team during the seris against England after seven years, had played in just 4 matches and he smashed just 1 fifty during the last Test match at the Oval. He was able to get starts to his innings and also looked calm while batting, but couldn't convert them into big knocks which might have helped him to seal his position in India's Test team.
The Indian team has remained unchanged largely from the Test series against England. Since Pant was dropped from the side after the 4th Test match owing to a foot injury, Dhruv Jurel has replaced him as India's preferred wicket-keeper, whereas N Jagadeesan will be his back up.
Jagadeesan, who had scored a brilliant knock of 64 runs off 113 balls during the first unofficial Test against Australia A, can also become India's third specialist opener if the team needs him to. This might push Abhimanyu Easwaran further down the order.
Ravindra Jadeja will be spearheading India's spin attack, along with Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel, who made a comeback to India's Test side, whereas Mohammed Siraj will lead India's pace attack along with Bumrah.
The first Test match against West Indies will be held in Ahmedabad and the second Test match will be held in Delhi. This is India's first home Test series after the Test series against England, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Gill, who had led India's T20I team as Suryakumar Yadav's assisstant, will now be leading the team in Test cricket as well. India will also be playing a Test series against South Africa later this year andd thats why this Test series against West Indies will help them to improve their skills.
India's Squad:
Shubman Gill (captain), Ravindra Jadeja (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Narayan Jagadeeshan
