BCCI on Saturday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, which is scheduled to start from October 19 in Perth. India have a new captain on board as Shubman Gill replaced Rohit Sharma for the ODI leadership role.
In the 15-member team picked for the ODI matches, the selection committee included Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mohammed Siraj, who were not considered for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami, along with Varun Chakaravarthy, were dropped. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant were not available for selection due to injury-related issues.
Virat Kohli made his much-awaited return to the ODI team along with Rohit, whereas Shreyas Iyer has been named the vice-captain of the side in the format. He was the top run-getter in India's previous ODI assignment, the Champions Trophy, which the Men in Blue won. KL Rahul will continue to be the leading wicket-keeper in the ODI team, while Dhruv Jurel was included as a backup in Pant's absence.
