Rohit Sharma ODI Captaincy Record: India will have a new ODI captain in their upcoming three-match away series against Australia as Shubman Gill replaced Rohit Sharma for the role on Saturday.

India's squad announcement marked an end to Rohit's incredible stint as the ODI skipper of the national team, having achieved immense success in the leadership role. However, the 38-year-old continues to be part of the ODI setup and was named in the 15-member squad for the Australia tour.

Rohit was last seen in action for India during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which the Men in Blue won under his captaincy. Having taken over the captaincy from Virat Kohli in 2021, Rohit went on to revolutionise India's white-ball cricket on the back of his own fearless approach, especially with the bat.

Rohit Sharma's Captaincy Record in ODIs

Rohit Sharma led India in a total of 56 ODI matches, guiding the team to 42 victories. Under his leadership, India had a 76 per cent win rate. His leadership brought stability to the team, helping India dominate in bilateral series and tournaments. Rohit led India to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title success and a place in the ODI World Cup 2023 final. India also won the Asia Cups in 2018 and 2023 under his leadership


Rohit Sharma runs in ODIs as captain

Rohit scored 2,506 runs in 55 innings as ODI captain, averaging 52.20 with a strike rate of 111.97. His stint included five centuries, along with one double century and 17 fifties.

In 42 matches India won under his captaincy, Rohit scored 2,080 runs at an average of 59.42 and a strike rate of 110.75.
