Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, Asia Cup 2025: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in match 15 of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
This was Pakistan's first win in the Super Fours and third overall in the tournament, as they kept their hopes alive for the final qualification. They headed into the match after a massive defeat against India in the previous fixture, but produced an all-round performance against Sri Lanka.
Mohammad Nawaz finished things off in style as he smashed Dushmantha Chameera for three sixes with Pakistan chasing down the 134-run target in 18 overs. Nawaz produced a batting masterclass and was Pakistan's top run-getter with an unbeaten knock of 38 runs in 24 balls, which he scored with the help of three fours and as many sixes.

Chasing 134 should not have been a tough task, but Pakistan nearly made a mess of it before recovering as Nawaz and Hussain Talat stitched a match-winning partnership of 58 runs for the sixth wicket.

"Can't say it is a perfect game. We lost four wickets in 3 overs. Apart from that, it was a perfect game. We need to stop these. Our fielding coach (Shane McDermott) has been working really hard with us. We have named him Rockstar. Our players have been doing extra on the field. Shaheen has been bowling really well. He is an asset to us. He is a match-winner," Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha said in the post-match presentation.
Earlier, Pakistan pacers put the Sri Lankan batters through the wringer despite Kamindu Mendis' fine fifty, restricting them for a vastly under-par 133 for eight.
For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for just 28 runs in his four overs, whereas Haris Rauf and Hussain Talat found a couple of scalps each.
Talking about Sri Lanka, they are on the verge of getting eliminated from the tournament with defeats against Bangladesh and now Pakistan. They now need a few things to fall in place to stand a chance of the final qualification.
