Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have brought an end to one of the most successful partnerships in franchise cricket by parting ways with head coach Stephen Fleming following a disappointing 2026 season.

Fleming, who joined CSK in the inaugural IPL season in 2008, spent 18 years with the franchise and became the longest-serving head coach for a cricket team. During his remarkable tenure, CSK became one of the most consistent sides in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Here’s a look at the longest-serving coaches in franchise cricket.

Stephen Fleming (Chennai Super Kings) – 18 Years (2008–2026)

Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming tops the list after serving as Chennai Super Kings’ head coach for 18 seasons. Under his leadership, CSK won five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies which is joint most in the history of the cash-rich league. Fleming also guided CSK to 12 IPL playoff appearances and 10 finals.

Greg Shipperd (Sydney Sixers) – 11 Seasons (2015–2026)

Greg Shipperd had an 11-season stint as Sydney Sixers head coach between 2015 and 2026, making him one of the longest-serving coaches in the Big Bash League (BBL)

During his tenure, the Sixers won back-to-back BBL titles in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, defeating Melbourne Stars in both finals. The franchise also reached five BBL finals, finishing runners-up in 2016-17, 2021-22 and 2025-26. Shipperd stepped down after the conclusion of BBL 15 and was succeeded by James Hopes.

Mohammad Salahuddin (Comilla Victorians) – 9 Years (2015–Present)

Mohammad Salahuddin has been the head coach of Comilla Victorians since 2015 and witnessed the most successful eras in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Under his guidance, the Victorians have lifted four BPL titles and remained regular contenders. In his most recent season with the franchise, Salahuddin guided a Litton Das-led side to the final before finishing runners-up to Fortune Barishal.

Mahela Jayawardene (Mumbai Indians) – Since 2017

Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene has been at the helm of Mumbai Indians since 2017 and has enjoyed tremendous success with the five-time IPL champions.

During his tenure, Mumbai Indians won three IPL titles in 2017, 2019 and 2020, while also returning to the playoffs in the 2025 season.

Adam Voges (Perth Scorchers) – Since 2018

Adam Voges took over as Perth Scorchers head coach ahead of the 2018-19 Big Bash League (BBL) season after ending his playing career with the franchise.

As head coach, Voges has guided the Scorchers to three BBL titles, including back-to-back championships in BBL 11 and BBL 12 before clinching another title in BBL 15. Before becoming coach, Voges also captained Perth to two BBL titles, making him one of the most decorated figures in the franchise’s history with five championships overall, two as captain and three as head coach.
