Emphasising a permanent solution to the capital's air quality crisis, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Friday that the Delhi government is prioritising the eradication of dust pollution through a new infrastructure strategy. During her visit to the Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency, the Chief Minister declared that "wall-to-wall" road construction is being accelerated across the city to effectively curb roadside dust.

Pollution Control Strategy

Wall-to-Wall Roads Chief Minister Gupta identified dust as a primary contributor to Delhi’s pollution levels. To address this, the government is implementing the "wall-to-wall" road model, which entails paving the entire road width—including pavements and central verges—to eliminate bare soil where dust accumulates.

"Pollution control is not possible through government efforts alone; active public participation is also necessary. People must understand their role and take appropriate steps to reduce dust and smoke," the Chief Minister stated.

She further instructed all MLAs to strictly adhere to this model when constructing or repairing roads in their respective constituencies. To ensure the initiative faces no financial hurdles, special funds worth crores of rupees have been allocated to legislators. The CM also criticized the previous administration for failing to devise a concrete plan to tackle the city's pollution crisis.

Development Blitz In Shalimar Bagh

During her tour of the Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency, the Chief Minister inaugurated and inspected a slew of civic development projects ranging from road repairs to the installation of modern amenities.

BH East Block: The CM inaugurated RMC (Ready-Mix Concrete) works for drains and lanes.

CC Block: Projects launched include the laying of new water pipelines, RMC work on roads and drains, park development, and the installation of new CCTV cameras. She also inspected the condition of a local senior citizen building.

Sahipur Village: Emphasising rural development as a key priority, the CM inaugurated the construction of a boundary wall for a pond, a new sewer line, and other developmental works.

BK-1 and BK-2 Blocks: A series of upgrades were unveiled, including new lanes and drains, a sewer line, high-mast lights, and park redevelopment.

Additional Amenities: The visit included an inspection of the swimming pool area and the inauguration of roads and drains in the Police Colony. The CM also unveiled new facilities in a local park, including a gym, play station and solar lights.
