Continuous heavy rainfall and the prevailing flood situation have prompted the Bhadrak district administration to order the closure of 89 schools across three blocks on Monday, August 24. The affected schools are located in Bhadrak, Tihidi and Chandbali blocks, where adverse weather conditions and flood-related disruption continue to affect normal life.

The precautionary measure has been taken keeping in mind the safety of students, teachers and school staff. Restoration and reconstruction work is also underway in several affected areas, while authorities remain concerned about difficult commuting conditions and the possibility of further heavy rainfall.

89 Schools in Three Blocks to Remain Closed

According to the district administration's decision, a total of 89 schools located in Bhadrak, Tihidi and Chandbali blocks will remain closed on August 24. The closure comes amid continuous rainfall and flood-related challenges in parts of the district. Authorities have taken the decision to ensure that students do not face risks while travelling to and from their schools during the adverse weather conditions.

Heavy Rain and Flood Situation Continue

Several areas of Bhadrak district have been affected by continuous rainfall and the prevailing flood situation. Waterlogging, difficult road conditions and disruption to normal movement have raised concerns about the safety of school-going children.

The weather situation has also led authorities to closely monitor vulnerable areas. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning.

Restoration Work Underway

Restoration and reconstruction work is continuing in several rain and flood-affected areas of the district. Keeping these ongoing activities and the condition of roads and other infrastructure in mind, the administration has decided to temporarily suspend school operations in the affected blocks.

Officials will continue to assess the ground situation and weather conditions before taking further decisions regarding the reopening of the affected schools.

Advice for Parents

Parents and guardians are advised to keep children indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions. They should also ensure that children do not venture near flooded roads, waterlogged areas or other potentially dangerous locations.

Parents should regularly check official announcements from the Bhadrak district administration and respective schools for updates regarding the reopening of the 89 schools and any further weather-related advisories.
