Being a star kid is not as easy as it seems. Coming from an influential family in the film industry always leads to constant comparisons. A recent example is late actor Irrfan Khan's son Babil Khan, who followed in his father's footsteps after his death and made his acting debut in 2022 with Qala. Even after doing well, he is constantly watched and compared. Recently, Irrfan's wife, Sutapa Sikdar, opened up about the same and shared how her son struggles.
Sutapa, in a conversation with The Hindustan Times, said, “Babil pe bahut zyada pressure hai aur mujhe yeh thik nahin lagta! This pressure should not be there. Irrfan never had that pressure, and when you don’t put any pressure on yourself, your individuality comes out."
Sutapa also revealed that the cause of concern wasn’t just work, but also that Babil lost his father at a young age. She stated, “It’s not only about work, but also about losing the father figure, almost depression mein hai! Usmein yeh stress and comparisons all the time. As a mother, I feel, ‘Please mere bachche ko chor do’. Also, he is very vulnerable and does not have a fighter’s spirit. His father was very strong, and so am I, but genetically kahin se to aaya hoga…”
Linking Babil’s situation to Abhishek Bachchan’s comparison to his dad and megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Sutapa said, “Like, Abhishek Bachchan did amazing work in I Want to Talk, but wahi hai…comparisons with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan have worked against him. I feel Babil is going through a similar ordeal. I just hope he overcomes it soon.”
Earlier this year, Babil shared a cryptic post about giving up. Ahead of his father’s death anniversary, he took to his Instagram story and wrote, “Sometimes I feel like giving up and going to Baba.” Babil later deleted the post, but the screenshot of the story went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Babil Khan will next be seen in Shoojit Sircar’s The Umesh Chronicles. The film will also star Amitabh Bachchan and Kriti Panth.
