Kannada director and actor Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara' received immense praise at the box office, where the 2022 release made it among the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year in India.

Now, as the makers officially announced the coming of a sequel, 'Kantara 2' stands to be one of the highest South anticipated films in the coming years. However, according to a report in Pinkvilla, 'Kantara 2' is likely to go on floors on August 27.

According to the report, Rishabh Shetty's 'Kantara 2' will be going on the floors in the next two months. The film is expected to launch on August 27, 2023, where the founder of Hombale Films Founder Vijay Kiragandur stated that Rishab Shetty is planning to start the shoot of the film in August as a large portion of the shoot requires monsoons.

The budget of the sequel is higher than the first part which was created on a very low budget but turned out to be a massive hit at the box office.
Reportedly, the actor has locked the script of 'Kantara 2' where the film is a prequel and not a sequel to 'Kantara.' Rishab Shetty clarified and said, "What you have seen is actually Part 2, and Part 1 will come next year. The idea came to my mind while I was shooting for Kantara. It is because the history of Kantara has more depth to it."

He further added, "Currently, we are in the middle of digging into more details. As the research is still underway, it would be very early to reveal details about the film."

In March, on the auspicious occasion of Ugadi, Rishab Shetty began working on the script of the film and announced this on his social media where the first set with the draft is already ready. He further added that the film will be released in 2024.

Talking about 'Kantara', the film is set in the backdrop of coastal Karnataka and is based on the regional ritual dance named 'Bhoota Kola.' The film revolves around Rishab Shetty named Shiva and his father, where the other star cast includes Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Pramod Shetty, Prakash Tuminad, Naveen D Padil, and others in pivotal roles.

The film was backed up by Vijay Kiragandur and is made under the banner Hombale Films.
