Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri: Filmmaker Rajiv Rai has expressed strong disappointment after hearing the iconic opening beats of his 1992 hit song Saat Samundar in the announcement promo of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. The upcoming rom-com stars Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, and its 32-second teaser was released in December 2024. While fans celebrated the reunion of the actors, Rai was shocked to discover that the promo briefly used music from his film Vishwatma without his approval.
Speaking to Mid-Day, Rajiv Rai said that neither Dharma Productions, which is producing the film, nor Saregama, the music label that owns rights to some of his songs, had approached him for permission. He stated that although Saregama controls the distribution rights of certain tracks, his agreement with the label does not allow them to place his music into another film. Rai explained, “Saat Samundar isn’t in the latest teaser, and I don’t know if it’s in the film. But they can’t use my music like this, especially when no one asked me. It’s becoming a bad trend where filmmakers use old songs, claim they got the rights from the label, and ignore the creator completely.”

Furthermore, Ranjiv Rai added that while Saregama is allowed to use his songs for TV and stage performances, placing his music into a new movie requires his explicit consent, proper payment, and legal documentation. Rai confirmed that his legal team is preparing to contact Karan Johar and the film’s producers, asking them to remove the music unless they obtain official permission. Although he prefers to avoid legal disputes, he stressed that he will go to court if necessary. “If anyone uses content from my films without the right process, we will take action, before or after the film releases,” he said.
Meanwhile, this incident is not new for Rai. He previously took legal action when Tip Tip Barsa Paani from Mohra was remixed for Sooryavanshi without his approval. In contrast, he willingly gave Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela from Gupt to Shah Rukh Khan for Aryan Khan’s debut series, free of cost.
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is set for Christmas 2025 release.
