Satish Shah was one of the actors who was funny, witty, and full of life. He was best known for his role as Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. He left everyone in shock with his passing on October 25 at the age of 74. He received a farewell full of laughter, a musical tribute, exactly what he deserved. Recently, his on-screen wife and actress Ratna Pathak Shah remembered the late actor, stating, "Sometimes it’s necessary to sit and cry, and I don’t think Satish ever allowed himself that."
Satish Shah's Sarabhai vs Sarabhai co-stars paid a heartfelt farewell to him during his prayer meet. Besides weeping, they made it a celebration of his legacy and cherished memories. In a conversation with The Hindu, Ratna said, "Satish deserved it. He didn’t deserve weeping or mourning, or people crying about how things were or should have been. He certainly didn’t need any weepy bhajans. So, what the Sarabhai gang decided — and I wholeheartedly approved — was that we should celebrate Satish. His was a life lived to the fullest. He took everything life threw at him with great courage and humour. That’s what was special about him.”
On Satish not showing all his sides of himself and hiding his pain behind his cheerful nature. She stated, “I felt Satish maybe didn’t let his other side come out, even to himself. He probably never acknowledged that there was more to life than humour and smiling through everything. Sometimes it’s necessary to sit and cry, and I don’t think Satish ever allowed himself that. Maybe he did with Madhu, because she was with him every step of the way.”

Ratna recalled the time when she saw Satish truly shattered, saying, “The only time I saw him shattered was when Madhu fell ill long ago and needed blood transfusions. All of us rushed to the hospital then. That was the only time we saw a Satish who wasn’t the cheerful one he showed the world. But maybe that wasn’t an act — maybe that was just his way of dealing with life. I told him a couple of times that he should look deeper within himself, but he wasn’t keen on going down that road.”

Following the demise of Satish, the show’s producer, JD Majethia, revealed the actor's final conversations with Ratna and his close friends just before his death. In an interview with PTI, he sai, "I couldn’t believe it because he had a chat with Aatish Kapadia at 11 am. He had a chat with Ratna ji at 12:57 pm. And after two hours, we got to know he is no more. The day before yesterday, we were supposed to meet. I was right below his house, but he said he was too tired to meet. I’m about to retire. I told him my family also wanted to meet him. Bohot pyaar karte the betiyon se, very close to my wife."
Satish Shah has delivered remarkable performances in both television and film. His notable works include Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Main Hoon Na, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Fanaa, among many others. Satish Shah was battling from kidney-related issues and breathed his last at his residence in Mumbai.
