With compelling narratives that have debuted and screened at esteemed international film festivals, Indian movies have long served as the nation's ambassador on the international scene. From Soni Razdan's Difficult Daughters to Anurag Kashyap and Nikhil Dwivedi's Bandar, a number of Indian films are finding their way to well-known international theaters. These indie movies have received positive reviews from reviewers and viewers worldwide. In the upcoming film festivals, we can now expect to witness yet another wave of captivating Indian stories attracting international attention.
Here are five Indian indie movies that are set to be screened at various upcoming international film festivals, showcasing the country's cinematic brilliance:
Bandar (Monkey in a Cage)
Bandar (Monkey in a Cage), directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by acclaimed producer Nikhil Dwivedi, is set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025. The movie, which stars Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra in the lead roles, is expected to be one of the filmmaker and producer’s boldest cinematic offerings.

Homebound
Homebound is a slice-of-life drama helmed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under the banner of Dharma Productions. The film stars Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa in the lead roles. After a successful premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, the movie is all set to be screened at the Toronto Film Festival 2025.
Baksho Bondi (Shadowbox)
Baksho Bondi (Shadowbox) is a Bengali film helmed by Tanushree Das and Saumyanandi Sahi. It stars Tillotama Shome, Chandan Bisht, Sayan Karmakar, and Suman Saha in the lead roles. The movie is all set to be screened at the Busan International Film Festival, 2025.
Village Rockstars 2
Village Rockstars 2 is an Assamese film that is helmed by Rima Das and produced by Rima and Fran Borgia. The movie starring Bholoram Das, Bhanita Das, Basanti Das, Manabendra Das, and others, is all set to be screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, 2026.
Difficult Daughters
Difficult Daughters is an Indie movie helmed by Soni Razdan and produced by Alia Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt, and Alan McAlex. It is one of the four Indian films among the Asia Projects Market to be screened at the Busan International Film Festival.
