The Smurfs: The new blue era of The Smurfs is coming soon. The makers are bringing an all-new adventure, humour and cast, blending nostalgia with fresh excitement. Joining the Smurfs on this new adventure, pop star Rihanna adds her charm to the world of animation by lending her voice to one of the beloved characters, Smurfette. The trailer of the upcoming movie has sparked excitement among viewers.
The Smurfs is directed by Chris Miller, written by Pam Brady and produced by A Ty Ty along with Jay Brown Productions. The upcoming movie is based on the original creation by Peyo, but this time, The Smurfs bring a star-studded voice cast to the screen.
The trailer introduces Rihanna's character, Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie. She is heard saying, "I'm Rihanna, and I play Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie, and I can't wait for you all to see it this summer." The clip shows the Smurfs enjoying their time in the village when suddenly a state of emergency arises as Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman) is mysteriously captured by the evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel. Smurfette leads the Smurfs into the real world to rescue their father while facing evil forces during their mission. This brings new challenges and explores the characters' journeys in depth. The trailer also features two songs by Rihanna: her hit song Don’t Stop the Music and a glimpse of her cover of Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven Is a Place on Earth.
Besides Rihanna, the cast includes James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, with Kurt Russell and John Goodman, adding uniqueness to the iconic blue characters.
The Smurfs will hit theaters on July 18, 2025, in both English and Hindi.
