Iconic singer Zubeen Garg died ahead of his performance at the North East Festival in Singapore. The 52-year-old singer was set to perform at the festival on September 20 and 21. While initial reports suggested that the Ya Ali hitmaker had died from injuries sustained during a scuba diving accident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later clarified on Saturday that the singer passed away while swimming without a life jacket. He further confirmed that the post-mortem has been completed and the singer’s mortal remains are being handed over to his accompanying team.
A video shared on social media shows him moments before the tragedy, enjoying a cruise party and jumping into the sea with a life jacket. Sadly, it was during his second swim that he suffered the fatal medical episode.
According to reports, Zubeen was pulled from the sea by Singapore authorities after suffering a seizure while swimming. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite intensive medical care, doctors could not save him.
Sharing details about Zubeen Garg’s sudden demise, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who visited the singer’s residence on Friday night to offer his condolences to the family, said that Garg had gone on a yacht trip with 17 others and tragically lost his life while "swimming in the sea without a life jacket."
