In a bid to cut down on costs, Air India is set to discontinue its non-stop Bengaluru-San Francisco (BLR-SFO) and Mumbai-San Francisco (BOM-SFO) Flights starting from March 1, 2026. The airline has cited deployment challenges and rising costs owing to airspace restrictions behind taking such a drastic decision. The move has caused a great deal of frustration amongst the passengers, especially those who had booked their tickets for a journey after March 1.

However, according to a report by the Times of India, the airline is trying to plug this gap by expanding its operations from Delhi to San Francisco and Toronto to 10 flights a week.

Air India SFO Flights: Move To Trigger Tech Professionals

The withdrawal of direct connectivity from Bengaluru and Mumbai to San Francisco is bound to affect the tech professionals and those who rely on these non-stop flights to the US West Coast.

Alternatives For Passengers

The passengers who will be affected by these new changes will be accommodated on alternative flights or will be given a full refund for their tickets.

Netizens React To Air India’s Policies

Passengers who had already planned their journeys and booked tickets with Air India expressed anger and disappointment over the sudden change. One traveller wrote on X, “I have flights booked on BLR–SFO (with return) in May and DEL–SFO (with return) on May 26. What do I do?”

Several others said they had booked their tickets well in advance to plan their travel smoothly, but are now left unsure about their arrangements.“I have family travel planned for May. What happens to our return tickets?” another flyer posted.

In response to the concerns of the passengers, an Air India official said that the carrier would reach out to the affected passengers and try to resolve their concerns as soon as possible.
