BJP National General Secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam has filed a Rs 2 crore defamation suit in the Delhi High Court regarding the allegations made against him on internet media and digital platforms.
In the petition, he has sought action against a total of nine respondents, including actress Urmila Sanawar, former MLA Suresh Rathore, the Indian National Congress, Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, Congress State President Ganesh Godiyal, Aam Aadmi Party, Congress national media panelist Alok Sharma, X (formerly Twitter) user Mohit Chauhan.
The petition has been filed on behalf of Dushyant Kumar Gautam that the respondents have circulated defamatory statements against him through X, Meta platforms (Facebook/Instagram), and YouTube, causing considerable damage to his social reputation and image.
On this basis, the plaintiff has sought damages of Rs 2 crore from a total of nine defendants. The petition
also requests that the court issue a permanent injunction in favor of the plaintiff, preventing the defendants and their agents, representatives, associates, heirs, and relatives from publishing or disseminating any defamatory allegations against the plaintiff.
He further requested the Court to direct that the respondents not only remove the objectionable links specifically listed in the petition, but also immediately remove all similar, mirrored, re-uploaded, edited or translated versions of the same content from the relevant platforms upon being informed by the plaintiff or his counsel.
Apart from that, Gautam has already filed a case against Urmila Sanawar and others at the Dalanwala police station in Dehradun. Earlier, on December 24, a case was also filed by former District Panchayat member Aarti Gaur at the Nehru Colony police station in Dehradun.
According to Aarti Gaur's complaint, Urmila Sanawar and former MLA Suresh Rathore repeatedly posted baseless, misleading, and obscene content related to the Ankita Bhandari murder case, against her on the social media platform Facebook. She had posted an audio clip in which she used offensive words and abuses related to women's identity.
Meanwhile, Aarti Gaur had also told the police that cases related to posting obscene material and spreading religious-caste frenzy have already been registered against Urmila Sanawar in the Nehru Colony police station of Dehradun, Ranipur police station of Haridwar, and Bahadrabad police station, which are currently pending in the court.
