Bengaluru News: Following the launch of a modern parking facility at Freedom Park, Bengaluru is gearing up for another high-tech parking hub at the iconic KR Market. In a first-of-a-kind initiative, a public market in Bengaluru will feature a smart parking system with AI surveillance, digital payment options and user-friendly features.

Taking a major step towards smarter urban infrastructure, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has awarded the project to a private company for 10 years. The company will pay Rs 4.3 crore annually to GBA and invest an additional Rs 7-8 crore to redevelop the old basement of the KR building, Times of India reported.

Bengaluru KR Market Parking Hub To Be Equipped With THESE Facilities

- The smart parking system at KR Market will take about six months to install and redevelop.

- The private company will invest around Rs 7-8 crore for the redevelopment of the parking.

- The parking will be designed to accommodate 200 cars and 400 two-wheelers, with dedicated parking bays for women and persons with disabilities.
Parking fees will be kept affordable, similar to the rates of the Freedom Park facility.

- The smart parking facility will offer an air-filling station, a puncture repair shop and on-site mechanics to assist with vehicle breakdowns.

- The parking facility will be equipped with approximately 85 AI-powered cameras that will monitor the area round-the-clock. The AI cameras will be able to recognise faces and track number plates, enhancing security and preventing theft or misuse.

- The parking system will be fully automated, featuring ticketless entry and exit with payments accepted only through digital modes.

This marks Bengaluru’s first step towards developing a smart parking system at busy markets. While the Freedom Park has set the benchmark for multi-level parking, the GBA aims to set a new standard for smart parking in bustling market areas with KR Market.
