Bihar Rapid Rail Project: In a major update for the residents of Bihar, the state government is considering building multiple Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors to boost regional connectivity. Earlier on Wednesday, a proposal to prepare an Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for four corridors connected to Patna was approved. The rapid rail corridors are likely to benefit lakhs of residents living in Patna and nearby cities, including Jehanabad, Gaya, Sonpur, and Muzaffarpur.
Project To Benefit Multiple Cities
As per the reports, the four corridors being studied by the government will include major cities established in all the directions of the capital city. The project will benefit the residents of several cities, including Sonpur, Muzaffarpur, Hajipur, Fatuha, Bakhtiyarpur, Barauni, Begusarai, Bihta, Ara, Masaurhi, Jehanabad, and Gaya.
According to the Urban Development and Housing Department, the rapid rail corridors will benefit approximately 25 lakh people of these regions. Apart from this, these cities will also see a growth in financial activities due to the proximity to Patna.
NCRTC To Conduct Study Soon
The reports suggest that the NCRTC will first conduct a study to determine the routes with the highest passenger traffic and where an RRTS system would be most useful. The authority will also study potential routes, stations, ridership, cost, land requirements, construction techniques, financial models, and project feasibility.
If the project is implemented, the travel time between the nearby cities and Patna will significantly reduce. The residents living in Muzaffarpur, Hajipur, Bihar Sharif, Ara, or other major cities will be able to travel to the capital city within an hour. Apart from this, the project will also reduce traffic congestion in Patna, improving the travel experience.
As per the experts, this project has potential to shape the future urban and economic growth of Bihar by linking the nearby cities to Patna.
