Bilaspur Train Accident: At least eight passengers died while several others were injured after a passenger train and a freight train collided in Chhatisgarh's Bilaspur on Tuesday. The Railway officials have arrived at the spot and the rescue operations are underway. While the exact reason behind the collision is not disclosed yet, the eyewitnesses stated that the collision was hard and led to panic among the locals.

Bilaspur DC Sanjay Agarwal stated that four people lost their lives after the last bogie and first bogie of a local train and a goods train collided. "The last bogie and first bogie of a local train and a goods train collided near Bilaspur. Four people have lost their lives in the accident. Rescue operation is underway," Agarwal was quoted as saying by ANI.
The officials stated that medical units and divisional officers were dispatched to the scene immediately after the accident. They further informed that train operations on this route have been halted and several passenger and express trains have been diverted. While providing details, the Railway PRO stated that the injured passengers have been admitted to a local hospital and all the measures are being taken.

Apart from this, the authorities have also issued helpline numbers, 9752485499 and 8602007202, for updates and assistance to the passengers and their kins. Contact numbers for the Champa Junction (808595652), Raigarh (975248560), and Pendra Road (8294730162), have also been provided by the authorities.
The authorities also stated that the collision was so severe that it damaged the overhead electric wiring and the signalling system. They also stated that the maintenance work might take a few weeks, leading to disruption of the train services on the route.
