Lok Sabha Election 2024: With just a few weeks left in the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress on Friday released its poll manifesto titled ‘Nyay Patra’ which mainly focuses on youth, farmers, and unemployment issues. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Congress President and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi were seen releasing the party manifesto. 

The poll manifesto of the Congress focuses on 'Paanch Nyay' or the five pillars of justice, including 'Yuva Nyay', 'Naari Nyay', 'Kisaan Nyay', 'Shramik Nyay' and 'Hissedari Nyay’. It also focuses on the guarantees made by the party to the people as part of its poll promises for the general elections.

Congress Poll Manifesto: Key Highlights

The party in its poll manifesto also announced that it will conduct a nationwide Socio-Economic and Caste Census to enumerate the castes and sub-castes and their socio-economic conditions and will pass a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for SC, ST and OBC, as reported by news agency ANI. 

The party has also focused on women empowerment in its manifesto and announced the launch of the Mahalakshmi scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh per year to every poor Indian family as an unconditional cash transfer.

The Congress released the poll manifesto after nationwide surveys and receiving thousands of suggestions via email and through the ‘Awaaz Bharat Ki' website of the party.

"The Committee successfully ensured public participation in this exercise, rather than merely confining it to an academic one. It held extensive consultations in different parts of the country and submitted a draft to me on March 6, 2024," Congress chief Kharge said.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases starting on April 19 and ending on June 1. The results will be announced on June 4.
