Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: Paying traffic challans in Delhi is set to become a much simpler and faster process. Soon, people visiting Lok Adalats will be able to clear their pending traffic fines without the hassle of cash payments, as authorities are introducing digital payment options such as UPI and debit or credit cards.
The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) is preparing to enable traffic challan payments through UPI and debit or credit cards during the upcoming special Lok Adalat. The move aims to make the challan payment process quicker, more transparent, and completely digital.
Completely Paperless Settlement of Challans
During the recent Lok Adalat proceedings, the Digital Lok Adalat application was also used to facilitate settlements. Developed jointly by the DSLSA, the Delhi Government, the National Informatics Centre (NIC), and the Delhi Traffic Police, the application enabled a completely paperless settlement process for traffic challans.
The application offered several facilities, including an integrated database, barcode-based challan searches, direct connectivity with the Delhi Traffic Police and Virtual Court Portal, and instant SMS notifications after challan settlements.
According to the DSLSA, the digital system significantly reduced the time required for settling challans and ensured that people did not have to wait for long periods. Judicial officers and staff also described the new system as more effective, noting that it reduced the additional workload associated with manual data entry.
What Did Authorities Say?
DSLSA Additional Secretary Abhinav Pandey said that after the implementation of the new system, people would no longer need to make cash payments. Instead, traffic challans could be paid digitally on the spot.
A special Lok Adalat was conducted across all seven district court complexes in Delhi, where 115,739 traffic challan cases were settled. A total fine amount of Rs 2.24 crore was collected from these cases.
Meanwhile, 617 electricity-related cases were also settled at the Permanent Lok Adalat located at Mata Sundari Lane, with settlements amounting to Rs 1.79 crore.
Overall, 116,356 cases were resolved in a single day, and a total amount of Rs 4.04 crore was received through fines and settlements.
