Delhi Weather Today: The Southwest monsoon seems to make its entry in the national capital after a long span of scorching and extreme heat, making weather conditions unbearable and day-to-day tasks hard to perform. The national capital experienced rain on Tuesday, as part of pre-monsoon showers, and weather condition is expected to intensify as the weather department has anticipated heavy rainfall for the next two days.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in the city for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday. The weather forecast also includes thundersqualls with a wind speed of 50 to 60 Kmph, particularly at night. Temperatures on Wednesday are expected to range between 34 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius.

The weather department has also cautioned against the possible repercussions of the weather conditions, as intense thunderstorms may cause intense lightning in open space, traffic disruption, and potential delays in flight and other services. The IMD warned bout risks to livestock and individuals working outside. 

The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors and unplug the electric appliances to avoid lightning-related damage. People have been advised not to use phones outdoors during lightning, and farmers, other outdoor workers have been advised to halt their work and shift to a safer place during the lightning. 

Delhi will remain under a yellow alert through Thursday, with rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds likely to persist during this period.

Flight Disruption, Waterlogging Reported After Showers On Tuesday

As pre-monsoon rain on Tuesday provided relief to residents from unbearable heat, the rainfall led to several service disruptions, causing waterlogging, traffic snarls across parts of the city and flight delays.

According to a report by PTI, 14 flights were diverted from Delhi airport between 3 to 4 pm on Tuesday due to bad weather conditions. The rainfall resulted in knee-deep water in several locations, including the Delhi Cantonment underpass, Zakhira Underpass, Pul Prahladpur, ITO, and stretches of Najafgarh and Rohtak roads, severely affecting road traffic.
