DK Shivakumar took the oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday. However, a brief protocol mix-up at the swearing-in ceremony became a topic of discussion. The ceremony was held at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru and the oath was administered by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
During the event, Karnataka's state anthem was played briefly before Vande Mataram due to confusion. It all happened when the master of ceremonies announced to play Vande Mataram. However, the Karnataka anthem 'Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Tanujate' started playing.
The officials soon stopped the Karnataka anthem and rectified the confusion, saving a major protocol breach.
Vande Mataram row in Tamil Nadu
Singing and playing Vande Mataram before the state anthem also triggered a political row in Tamil Nadu recently, where the national song was played first during CM Vijay's swearing-in and subsequently his minister's swearing-in ceremony.
'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu', the Tamil anthem, was played at the end of the ceremonies.
Upon objection raised by TVK allies, including Left parties, TVK reportedly clarified that official events attended by the Governor will follow the protocols made by the Union Home Ministry, which mandates playing Vande Mataram before the National Anthem and state anthems.
Shivakumar takes oath, Rahul Gandhi and Kharge remain present
Before swearing in, Shivakumar greeted former chief minister Siddaramaiah, who was also present at the ceremony. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukku, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, and Kerala CM VD Satheesan were present at the ceremony

Apart from Shivakumar, G Parmeshwara, former state Home Minister, took oath as the Deputy CM of the state. Among other MLAs who took oath as ministers are Congress chief's son Priyank Kharge, Siddaramaiah's son Yathindra and 10 others.
