Gurugram is set for a major public transport upgrade as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed metro extension from Sector 56 Rapid Metro Station to Pachgaon Chowk has been completed. The report will soon be submitted to the Chief Minister for final approval.
The development was shared during the 65th Board Meeting of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) held in Chandigarh on Monday.
According to officials, the proposed metro corridor will span approximately 35.25 kilometres and will be fully elevated. Once completed, it is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Cyber City, IMT Manesar and surrounding areas, benefiting lakhs of daily commuters.

28 Stations Planned Along New Metro Corridor
The new corridor will be integrated with the existing Rapid Metro network and will originate from Sector 56 Rapid Metro Station. A total of 28 stations have been proposed along the route up to Pachgaon Chowk.
Currently, the Rapid Metro operates between Ambience Mall and Sector 56, with connectivity to the Delhi Metro network at Sikanderpur station. The proposed extension will further strengthen Gurugram's urban transport infrastructure and improve accessibility across several residential and commercial zones.
With the DPR now complete, the tendering process is expected to begin after the project receives the necessary approvals.
Metro To Improve Connectivity Across Gurugram And Manesar
The proposed corridor will pass through densely populated urban stretches as well as rural areas, bringing metro connectivity to several developed and upcoming residential sectors around Manesar.
Officials estimate that more than 30 villages will benefit from the project. The corridor is also expected to ease traffic congestion on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, particularly between Sirhaul Border and Pachgaon Chowk, besides reducing pressure on major roads across Gurugram.
Pachgaon Chowk To Emerge As Major Transit Hub
The Pachgaon Chowk is all set to become a major transit hub in the future with the proposed metro corridor to integrate with the planned Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor connecting Delhi and Alwar. Once commissioned, passengers boarding the Delhi Metro and Rapid Metro networks will be able to carry on with their journey to Alwar without needing to exit the transit system.
Separate construction of another metro corridor that extends from Millennium City Centre Gurugram Metro Station through Old Gurugram to Rapid Metro station near Ambience Mall is underway and is set to connect with the planned RRTS network near Hero Honda Chowk.
Rapid Metro Ridership Continues To Rise
The number of passengers of Gurugram Rapid Metro is on the rise due to the increasing demand for metro services.
During the first five months of 2026, the number of passengers on Rapid Metro increased by 9.41 per cent to 80.76 lakh in comparison to 73.81 lakh passengers in the corresponding period last year.
