Hyderabad: In a deeply disturbing incident from Telangana, a young woman who chose to marry for love was allegedly abducted by her own parents just months after the wedding. The dramatic scene unfolded in broad daylight at her in-laws’ home in Hyderabad’s Narsampally village, where her family reportedly stormed in and forcibly took her away. A video capturing the chaos has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and concern.

The incident took place in Keesara, located in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. According to the police, the woman, Swetha, and her husband Praveen had married four months ago despite strong objections from Swetha’s family. Her parents and relatives, still opposed to the marriage, allegedly barged into Praveen’s home on Tuesday, attacked his family, and forcibly removed Swetha.

“Her family threw chilli powder into the eyes of our family members when we tried to stop them,” a relative claimed, recounting the sudden and violent intrusion.

The couple, both from the same caste and even distantly related, had tied the knot despite Swetha’s parents disapproving of Praveen’s career prospects. That disapproval, it seems, escalated into this shocking act.

Footage from the scene shows Swetha’s family dragging her out of the house as her in-laws desperately try to intervene. In the video, she is seen screaming while neighbors rush in to help but her parents and relatives overpower them and continue pulling her away.

Following a complaint lodged by Praveen’s father, police at Keesara station have filed a case of kidnapping against Swetha’s parents and four other relatives. “A case has been registered and we have begun investigating the matter,” a police official confirmed.

Swetha later contacted police, informing them that she was safe with her father and would present herself at the station the following day.
