Jharkhand New Airport: Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal recently chaired a virtual review meeting to accelerate land acquisition and secure the Forest Department’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) for key infrastructure projects in Jharkhand, with a special focus on the Dhalbhumgarh Airport in East Singhbhum.

The review also covered progress on projects such as Surda, Rakha, Kendadih Mines, Phuldungari Road, and the renovation of the HCL Hospital. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Forest, Revenue, Zonal, and Subdivision departments to work in close coordination with local stakeholders to ensure timely completion of these initiatives.

Emphasis was placed on ensuring fair, transparent, and sensitive compensation for families affected by the land acquisition process.

Dhalbhumgarh International Airport

The proposed international airport at Dhalbhumgarh represents a significant leap forward in development for East Singhbhum and its surrounding regions. Situated approximately 60 kilometres from Jamshedpur, the airport's foundation stone was laid on January 24, 2019, by then Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha.

An initial budget of Rs 100 crore was sanctioned, with plans to launch 72-seater aircraft operations by 2020. However, construction was stalled due to objections from the Forest Department, primarily concerning the presence of an elephant corridor in the area.

Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal has instructed the Forest Department to promptly submit all required documents and reports to expedite approvals from both the Central and State Governments for the Dhalbhumgarh Airport project.

Why Dhalbhumgarh Airport Is Important?

Dhalbhumgarh Airport has the potential to be a game-changer not just for Jamshedpur, but also for the bordering regions of Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha. Located about 55 km from Jamshedpur and just 5 km from Dhalbhumgarh railway station, the proposed airport is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity. Major industries such as Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and numerous small and medium enterprises stand to benefit from its development.
