The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids in Hazaribagh early Thursday morning. At around 5:00 am, an NIA team conducted a surprise search at the residence of terrorist Shahnawaz Alam living in the Pelawal area. According to jagran.com, the raid was conducted as part of an investigation into a broader case of terror funding and links to a terrorist network in Hazaribagh. The NIA, along with over 200 police personnel, surrounded Alam's home and conducted the raids.
Shahnawaz Alam was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in October 2023 in connection with the Pune ISIS module case. He is originally from Hazaribagh.
He had previously been jailed in Hazaribagh in 2019 for several robbery and theft cases. After he was granted bail in 2020, his involvement with an IS module came to light. Following his escape from Pune police custody, the NIA had announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for his arrest.
Shahnawaz Trained In Forests Of Pune
Shahnawaz Alam, alias Safiuzzama, received terrorist training in the forests of Pune. NIA team arrived in Hazaribagh based on recent inputs in this case.

Earlier this month, NIA conducted searches at several locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh as part of its investigations in the Delhi car bomb blast case.
Various digital devices and other incriminating materials were seized during the searches conducted at the premises of several accused and suspects, a statement issued by the federal probe agency said.
A total of eight locations were searched in Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama and Awantipora districts of J&K, and one location in Lucknow, it said.
On November 26 and 27, the NIA had conducted extensive searches at the premises of the prime accused, Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Saeed, in the Al Falah University complex and other places in Faridabad, Haryana.
