Jharkhand Protest Latest Updates: In a fresh development in the Jharkhand protests, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, following a tense day of clashes between students and police, took to X to reiterate his appeal to protesters to resolve their grievances through dialogue. He assured them that the government would address their demands with "utmost seriousness and sensitivity."

Several protesters and four policemen were injured in a clash near the Jharkhand Assembly on Monday after police used water cannons, tear gas and lathi-charge to disperse job aspirants protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.

The confrontation erupted after protesters breached multiple barricades near the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha and reached Gate No. 1 of the Assembly. They staged a sit-in and refused to leave until their demands were addressed, prompting police to resort to another round of lathi-charge.

The march began outside the old Assembly building at around 10:30 am, as the agitation over recruitment exam "irregularities" entered its 17th day. The protest also coincided with Chief Minister Hemant Soren's 51st birthday.

The protesters, mostly job aspirants and students, have been agitating over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), particularly the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination. The controversy has also resulted in arrests and the resignation of JPSC members, while several upcoming examinations have been postponed.

 - Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren urged protesting students to resolve their demands through dialogue, assuring them that the government would address their concerns with “utmost seriousness and sensitivity.” He also warned students against being influenced by opposition groups allegedly trying to politicise the protests.

- On Monday evening, after students insisted on marching to the Assembly, JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahato clashed with police. Police were forced to resort to force (lathi-charge) to control the crowd. After a day-long protest, Mahato was admitted to Ranchi's Sadar Hospital.

- The BJP has called for a Jharkhand bandh on Tuesday to protest against "police atrocities" and the lathi-charge on students agitating over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in the state. BJP state president Aditya Sahu said the bandh will remain in effect from 8 am to midnight on Tuesday.

- JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who has been on a hunger strike for the past nine days over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment examinations, was admitted to a hospital after his health condition deteriorated while participating in a march by protesting students. Doctors described Mahto's condition as critical due to a "drastic" drop in his blood sugar level.

- Student leader Ravindra Paswan accused the police of brutality and urged parents across the state to come out in support of the protest. He also said the protesters now want direct dialogue with Chief Minister Hemant Soren, calling the government delegation "incapable".

- Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi who is part of the Hemant Soren-led government in Jharkhand has extended his  support to the protesters, saying that the use of force against students protesting in the state is wrong. He called on the state government to continue hearing the protesters out and resolve their issues immediately. 

- The BJP on Monday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his party's "double standards" on the ongoing student protest in Jharkhand, saying those who tried to "politically hijack" the students'' agitation in Delhi are now silent on the stir in the state.

- Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Chairman L Kyangte has been arrested. Kyangte was summoned for questioning by the CID on July 28. Earlier, his official residence and the JPSC office were raided, and documents, OMR sheets and digital evidence were seized.

- Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi accused the state government of failing to take concrete action on the ongoing student agitation over alleged recruitment exam irregularities. Marandi said several students had fallen ill, while some were on hunger strike, and reiterated the protesters’ demand for a CBI probe.

- The ED has stepped in to investigate alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) 14th preliminary examination. The agency filed an ECIR last week based on an FIR registered by the CID. Earlier on Sunday, the Hemant Soren-led government announced CID and ED probes into alleged recruitment irregularities after a marathon meeting with students protesting against JPSC-JSSC recruitment examinations.

- Ranchi City Superintendent of Police Paras Rana said that while most students were peaceful, a section of protesters became aggressive and damaged barricades.

- The agitation has now emerged as a larger political and student issue, with protesters insisting that the credibility of recruitment examinations must be protected through an independent investigation and institutional reforms.

- Police used water cannons when the protesters reached the Jagannath Temple. The situation escalated after the demonstrators attempted to move beyond the final barricade, prompting the police to lathi-charge again.

 - Several rounds of tear gas shells were also fired when the protesters came within around 200 metres of the Assembly.

- Thousands of student protesters participated in the 'Vidhan Sabha Gherao' march as part of the agitation against alleged irregularities in JPSC-JSSC examinations.
