Kanwar Yatra 2025: To manage the expected surge in Kanwar Yatra pilgrims during the holy month of Shravan, authorities have implemented a one-way traffic system on the Prayagraj–Varanasi route, along with multiple traffic diversions for heavy vehicles.

From July 11 to August 9, all traffic on the left lane of the Grand Trunk Road from Jawahar Alopibagh Chungi in Prayagraj to Bhiti border near Varanasi has been fully restricted, officials said.

“This step has been taken to accommodate the large number of Kanwariyas expected during the yatra,” said ACP (Traffic) Kuldeep Singh.

Every year during Shravan, thousands of Kanwariyas collect Ganga water and walk long distances to offer it at Shiva temples. This year, too, many were seen gathering at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Prayagraj on July 11, the first day of the month.

In view of the first Shravan Monday, a key day in the yatra, a special diversion earlier scheduled for July 14 will now start from 10 pm on July 12 and remain in effect till 10 pm on July 15, covering the weekend rush.

Further, the Shastri Bridge in Prayagraj will be completely closed to heavy vehicles and roadways buses for a month. As part of the revised arrangements:

  • Buses coming from Varanasi will enter Prayagraj via Handia, Sahson, and Phaphamau.
  • Buses from Jaunpur will follow the Phoolpur–Sahson–Phaphamau route.
  • Goods vehicles moving within the city for loading/unloading must use the Dhumanganj and Phaphamau corridors.

A strict no-entry rule has also been enforced for all heavy commercial vehicles, except those involved in essential services. Previously issued vehicle passes have been suspended until further notice, the officials added.
