Karur Stampede Update: The Tamil Nadu government has released videos of Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally, showing violations of set rules and norms. In the videos released by the state government, TVK cadres are seen climbing on the roof at the Namakkal-Karur campaign.

Releasing videos of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) event in Karur, the state government claimed that TVK cadre is seen breaking the cordon and running at the venue.

The Tamil Nadu government has also rejected the claims of power supply being suspended during the rally, leading to a stampede, which killed 40 people. Rejecting the power supply disruption, the government said that a heavy crowd surged towards the electricity generator enclosure, leading to the focus light near the spot going off.

The state government also claimed that the video showed people experiencing suffocation and pushing through a heavy crowd to have a glance at Vijay's face.

Karur Stampede: Crowd Doubled Than Estimated

Questioning the presence of the crowd that was estimated and the capacity, the government said that TVK had estimated a crowd of nearly 10,000, which actually doubled. Besides, the number of people who followed actor Vijay was more than 25 thousand, hinting that overcrowding could have led to the deadly stampede.

Along with overcrowding, negligence of guidelines, the state government alleged that organisers did not oblige when police asked TVK chief 'Vijay to halt 50 mts ahead of the designated spot' due to overcrowding.
