Lionel Messi Kolkata Event: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has apologised to the fans and star footballer Lionel Messi for the mismanagement that led to chaos at Salt Lake Stadium. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Banerjee stated that an enquiry committee has been formed for a detailed probe into the matter. Her apology came after the BJP slammed the TMC government for mismanagement during Messi's event in Kolkata. The BJP leaders claimed that the star footballer was surrounded by TMC leaders, leaving no space for the fans. A massive chaos broke out after the fans claimed that they could not see Messi even after paying a hefty amount.

In her post, the chief minister stated that the committee will also fix responsibility and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. "I am deeply disturbed and shocked by the mismanagement witnessed today at Salt Lake Stadium. I was on my way to the stadium to attend the event along with thousands of sports lovers and fans who had gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite footballer, Lionel Messi," Banerjee stated in her post.

"I sincerely apologise to Lionel Messi, as well as to all sports lovers and his fans, for the unfortunate incident. I am constituting an enquiry committee under the chairmanship of Justice (Retd.) Ashim Kumar Ray, with the Chief Secretary and the Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs Department, as members. The committee will conduct a detailed enquiry into the incident, fix responsibility, and recommend measures to prevent such occurrences in the future," she added.

Earlier in a post on X (formerly Twitter), BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that the chaos was an embarrassment on an international stage. The BJP leader claimed that the star footballer was surrounded by TMC leaders, adding that the fans were denied access.

“Total embarrassment on an international stage. A global legend like Messi will see a massive public turnout and yet zero planning and very little security. CM Mamata Banerjee can’t even organise or manage an event. TMC leaders surrounded him, and fans were denied access. What if something had happened to fans or the guest?" Poonawalla stated.

The fans raised slogans and broke the chairs after the star footballer left the stadium just a few minutes after his arrival. The fans alleged that the mismanagement and lack of security caused the chaos, drawing reaction from the BJP leaders.
