Nepal Airlines is facing intense criticism from Indian on social media after a post featured a map showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan. The map, aimed at promoting the carrier's flight network, placed the entire region within the borders of Pakistan. This representation was widely condemned as a violation of India's sovereignty, leading to significant backlash online.

The incident has sparked a debate on social media, with many calling on the Government of India's Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Civil Aviation to take the matter seriously.

Nepal Airlines Deletes Post After Backlash

A large number of Indian users reacted sharply to the post. Posts using the hashtags #NepalAirlines and #JammuAndKashmir went viral, with users calling it a deliberate act of misinformation and an anti-India sentiment.

Khesari Lal Yadav Reacts

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bhojpuri cinema superstar Khesari Lal Yadav said, "Can anyone tell me what prompted Nepal Airlines to tamper with India's map like this, and that too regarding Jammu and Kashmir? This isn't a trivial matter; it seems like a deliberate act. They call this kind of thing provocation."

Users Call Govt To Take Cognisance Of Matter

Several Indian users tagged Nepal Airlines in their responses, pointing out that India has long been Nepal's primary partner across the economy, trade, energy, and disaster relief sectors. Many expressed disappointment that the carrier used such an inappropriate map despite these deep bilateral ties.

As the criticism grew, some users demanded that the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Government of India take formal notice of the matter to address the misrepresentation.

Nepal Airlines Deletes Post, Apologises

Following the widespread backlash, the airline deleted the post and issued an apology for displaying an incorrect map of India. The carrier said that the map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding the international boundaries that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines.

In a post on X, Nepal Airlines wrote, "We sincerely apologise for the error in the network map recently shared on our social media channels. The map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines."

"We have immediately removed the post and are conducting an internal review to ensure our materials meet the highest standards of accuracy. We deeply value our strong relationships with our neighbours and friends in the region and regret any offence the post has caused," it added.
