18 Fractures, Coma: Greater Noida Crash Victim Battles For Life As Thar Driver Remains Unidentified

A 40-year-old man was killed and his wife suffered 18 fractures after their scooter collided with a speeding Thar near the Itaida roundabout in Greater Noida on Monday evening. The woman remains in a coma, while the accused driver, who allegedly fled the scene after the crash, is yet to be traced.

The deceased has been identified as Neeraj, a resident of Ghaziabad. The collision was so severe that the scooter was completely destroyed, causing panic among locals. Officials stated that both Neeraj and his wife were rushed to a nearby hospital. However, Neeraj, who was driving the scooter, was declared dead.

The Thar driver fled the scene soon after the accident. According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred due to overspeeding, with some claiming that the Thar driver could have been under the influence of alcohol, reported News18.

What the victim's family said

According to the victim's elder brother, Amit Kumar, the accident took place in broad daylight, and he blamed the Thar driver entirely, reported NDTV.

"The SUV Thar was coming from the wrong side of the road. You can watch the video. The Thar was being driven at a very high speed. They were overspeeding," Amit said.

"My brother is no more. He was a lawyer practising in the Supreme Court. It was not his fault. He was driving in his own lane when the Thar came from the wrong side," he added.

Amit said his sister-in-law's condition remains critical.

"My sister-in-law is currently in a coma. Since yesterday, the doctors have raised medical bills of around Rs 7 lakh. The entire left side of her body has become paralysed. She has suffered 18 fractures. Her pelvic region has been completely crushed, and she has already undergone multiple surgeries," he said.

Meanwhile, the deceased's body has been sent for post-mortem examination. While the Thar driver fled the scene after the accident, the state police have taken the vehicle into custody.

Nearby CCTV camera footage is being examined to identify the accused.

Inspector-in-charge Ranjit Kumar Singh stated that the footage is being examined to determine the speed of the Thar and establish how the accident occurred. He further assured that teams have been formed to search for the driver.

A formal complaint is being registered based on information provided by the victim's family, and further legal action will follow against the accused driver.
