Delhi CJP Protest: Several markets across the capital are set to reopen on Sunday following a one-day closure prompted by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Meanwhile, traders in the city's busiest commercial hubs have been advised to remain vigilant amid ongoing street tensions.

According to Atul Bhargava, New Delhi Traders Association Chief, a fresh advisory was issued to traders to reopen their shops, remaining vigilant about the tense environment in the city. The advisory said, “This is the festival season, and a lot of stock purchases by traders have already been made. We have asked the markets to reopen today, but they must increase the vigilance. Deploy people near entrances to check no rowdy element is creating ruckus. A lot of chaos was seen in Connaught Place on Saturday, but we can’t keep asking people to shut their shops."

The advisory highlighted how tense the situation in CP became, urging the shopkeepers to stay vigilant and keep an eye on their doors and alerting authorities if something goes wrong.

Khan Market To remain fully open

Meanwhile, Khan Market Traders Association Chief Sanjiv Mehra said that the market will remain fully open today. He added that shops were opened on Saturday in alert mode after a closure of three hours. “Police were able to contain the protest. We have decided to remain open on Sunday,” he added.

Sarojni Nagar Market To Remain Open

Sarojni Nagar Market Secretary Ashok Kalra mentioned that it's Navratri time, and the market will remain fully open on Sunday. Echoing similar concerns, Kalra said, “Navratri has started, and this is the peak sale season for us. Our market is fully open, and we urge customers to come. Yesterday, we witnessed a sharp drop in footfalls. We are also urging police and authorities to help ensure normalcy."

Brijesh Goyal, who heads the Chamber of Trade and Industries, said that retail markets would remain partially open due to uncertainty in the wake of the protests. “There was hardly any business yesterday. Not just retail trade, but including the service sector, hospitality sector, transport, and tourism, business has been affected across. Closure of markets during the festival has given a huge shock to traders.”

The CJP Protest

The protest in Delhi and Mumbai came after a controversy over a report by The Indian Express that the two Election Commissioners had raised objections to the aspects of the SIR 14 times over the past 10 months. The Election Commission denied the report's claims, saying that differing views and comments were a normal part of discussions, but all decisions taken were unanimous.

Earlier this year, the CJP staged a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on July 20 over the NEET paper leak, demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Following the 36-day agitation, Pradhan finally resigned as the Union Education Minister and was replaced by Prahlad Joshi.
