A viral video showed a baby cockroach moving across the dining area, which prompted the customers to finally leave Mumbai’s Romano Restaurant in JW Marriott. The video was shared by a Delhi cardiologist, identified as Dr Ashok Seth, who works as a hairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute. The doctor tagged IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe, FSSAI and JW Marriott in the post, flagging major hygiene concerns.

Sharing the post on X, Dr Seth, sarcastically named the baby cockroach as "Rochie", a “baby” cockroach, who wished to have dinner with us. He said, “Look who came for dinner unexpectedly. 'Roachie' – a baby cockroach was on our table wanting to share our dinner at the Romano restaurant at JW Marriott, Sahar, Mumbai, Saturday night!!! Despite our persuasion, 'Roachie' refused to leave."

He mentioned that he, along with the other diners, attempted to shoo it away; however, it didn’t leave. The Delhi added that the insect took away their appetite, and they left the venue. "Maybe wanted Piazza and not Pasta. But he really took our appetite away. We left. ??? Thankfully we are in Mr Munde’s territory, and he most likely will look into this also,” he added.

How did the hotel respond?

The JW Marriott soon shared its response to the post. An account identified as Marriott Bonvoy Assist thanked Dr Seth for flagging the matter and saying it would be looked into, while asking him to share his first name, last name and confirmation number via direct message so the hotel could follow up.

Earlier Notices To JW Marriott

The incident comes days after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India issued notices to JW Marriott and Andaz, both run by Juniper Hotels, in Delhi’s Aerocity, citing serious hygiene violations, including active cockroaches near freezers, houseflies and mosquitoes in food-prep areas, expired stock, and improper food storage.

While the earlier incident took place at a different location, the timing intensified the online reaction as users referenced the previous notices in response to Dr Seth’s post.
