Amritsar-based businessman and influencer Rakesh Trehan, popularly known as 'Raja D King', who planned to distribute 100 iPhones for free, has handed over 10 sets till now. The unusual giveaway is taking place in Chandigarh.
The distribution is being conducted live in the presence of the media and the public. The giveaway was first announced in August, but Trehan fixed September 22 as the date, after the sale of the iPhone 18 began in India. Trehan said the giveaway will include only iPhone 17 models and above while iPhone 16 models will not be distributed.
As announced earlier, a WhatsApp group had to be created on which winners would receive a call informing them that they have won an iPhone.
"We are giving away 10 phones right now... We received so many calls which is why we could not create WhatsApp groups. We were supposed to give 100 phones... People of Chandigarh can come and take the phones anytime,” Raja D King said while talking to the media.

The only eligibility criterion for the giveaway was that all the members of the group had to write 'Jai Mata Di'. The winners will be chosen from those who have written 'Jai Mata Di'.
News agency IANS quoted Deepika, who won an iPhone 17 through the lucky draw, as saying, "...I had seen videos on social media about an 'iPhone langar', and a friend suggested I join the group. Following Raja Ji's instructions, I commented 'Jai Mata Di' and entered the lucky draw. I am so happy that my name was selected and I received an iPhone 17 today."
Who Can Participate In 'iPhone Langar'?
The event is meant for residents of Chandigarh and Mohali. He also said the iPhones would be distributed gradually to prevent misuse and ensure transparency.
Trehan Plans Giveaway Of Up To 1,000 iPhones
Trehan had also claimed that he had already ordered 100 iPhone 17 units and discussed arrangements for up to 1,000 iPhones. His initial plan was to distribute 100 iPhones in Chandigarh and another 200 in Mohali.
“There is no financial constraint. We will soon expand this initiative,” Trehan had said.
From 'Petrol Langar' To 'iPhone Langar'
The iPhone giveaway is not Trehan’s first unconventional community initiative. The businessman previously organised a ‘petrol langar’, where free petrol was provided to people at selected fuel stations. Coupons worth Rs 500 were distributed for two-wheelers and three-wheelers, while four-wheelers were given coupons worth Rs 1,000.
