Jamui Minor Harassment Case: A political controversy has erupted after a deeply disturbing video surfaced showing two minors being publicly harassed and humiliated in Bihar's Jamui district. While police have launched an investigation and made initial arrests, the incident has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders.

Bihar Minister Shravan Kumar Calls It "Sporadic Incident"

Speaking to reporters in Patna, Bihar's Rural Development, Information and Public Relations Minister Shravan Kumar described the Jamui molestation case as a "sporadic incident" while asserting that legal action will be taken against the accused.

"The world is not entirely free of crime. Sporadic incidents keep happening. The government has its eye on these sporadic incidents. Those who commit such acts cannot escape in Bihar. Strict action has been taken against them in the past as well," news agency IANS quoted Kumar as saying.

The minister stated that the government is monitoring such incidents and reiterated that offenders will not be allowed to evade the law.

Rahul Gandhi Questions Bihar Government Over Women's Safety

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, questioned the Bihar government over the safety of women and children and pointed to delays in making arrests.

"The video from Jamui, Bihar, is deeply disturbing. A young girl, hands folded, begged to be let go while goons groped her and dragged her away. Who gave these men the right to behave like this? This is not ‘culture’. It is patriarchy: the belief that any man can police a girl’s body, her movement, her choices," Gandhi said.

Calling for action, Gandhi added, "When control is mistaken for culture, and such attitudes are normalised, mobs start believing they are the law. Every individual in that video must be identified and prosecuted under POCSO. And if the incident happened on September 19th, why are the culprits not behind bars yet? And the Bihar government must answer why a girl is not safe on a public road at 7 pm?"

Tejashwi Yadav Terms Situation "Anarchic"

Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav attacked the state government, stating that an "anarchic situation" has emerged in Bihar.

Yadav alleged that women and female students are no longer safe in the state, claiming that criminals are committing offences in broad daylight inside schools, colleges, and homes.

Taking a swipe at PM Modi's silence on the matter, he added, "The Prime Minister has now become 'Mauni Baba'."

Police Register FIR Under POCSO Act; Three Arrested

The reactions comes after a video surfaced online showing a young boy being physically assaulted and a girl being groped by a group of miscreants in Jamui district. In the clip, the young girl is seen with her hands folded, desperately pleading with the men to let her and her male friend go as they are harassed and accosted on a road.

Following widespread public outrage over the footage, the police registered an FIR under the POCSO Act and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jamui to track down everyone involved. Authorities have booked seven individuals in connection with the incident, and three have been arrested so far.
