'Don't Want Revenge': Manipur Musician's Wife Seeks Justice; BJP Denies Racism Amid Massive Uproar In Delhi

Manipur Musician Death: The brutal killing of Manipuri musician and teacher Vikram Singh Chongtham in New Delhi's Kilokari has sent shockwaves across the northeastern community. Singh was chased and killed by the local delivery partners, allegedly for objecting to the noise and drinking outside his residence. The student wings and people from the northeast continued their protest on Tuesday, demanding justice and safety.

Manipur CM Seeks Justice 

Earlier, Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh expressed concerns over the musician's killing and urged Delhi CM Rekha Gupta to ensure a fair probe. "Given the prevailing socio-political sensitivities and past concerns surrounding the safety of people from the Northeast…any perception of laxity, bias, or delay in delivering justice risks exacerbating public unrest," Singh said in his statement.

Probe Underway

The Delhi Police, upon receiving a complaint by the victim's son, registered an FIR at Sunlight Colony police station and have arrested seven accused. In his complaint, Singh's son stated that the incident occurred at around 11.30 pm when he saw the miscreants physically assaulting his father. They ran away after he raised an alarm; however, Singh succumbed to injuries later.

BJP Denies Racism 

Earlier in a post on X, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra defined the incident as "horrifying" but clarified that no racist angle was involved. "Killing of Manipur singer is a horrifying incident but has no racist angle... Delhi Government on its part will recommend for speedy trial of the case in a special court as possible," Malhotra said in his post.

Wife Seeks Justice

Singh's wife Joshna Chongtham, while talking to the reporters at the Manipur Bhavan on Tuesday, stated that she does not want revenge, but justice must be served to ensure no other family goes through the same situation. "We don't want revenge for Vikram's death; we want justice so that this doesn't happen to any other family," she said.

Earlier on Tuesday, two CCTV footages emerged from the victim's residence, confirming the brutal killing of the musician.
