Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Congress, alleging that instead of supporting the country's army, backing 'terrorists groomed by Pakistan'.

PM Modi said, "The Congress, instead of supporting the Indian Army, backs terrorists groomed by Pakistan. During 'Operation Sindoor', the Congress, instead of supporting our armed forces, which destroyed the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, was engaged in protecting infiltrators and anti-national forces".

Speaking at an event at Mangaldoi in Assam's Darrang district, the prime minister accused the Congress party of "protecting" infiltrators and anti-national forces.

The Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 against the Pakistani terrorists after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives. The operation achieved some high-end targets deep inside Pakistan, initiating an escalatory spiral between the two countries.

While the Congress initially rallied behind the government in action against Pakistan by expressing unwavering solidarity, a handful of comments put the grand old party in hot water.

Speaking about the all-party delegation, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh made a controversial statement, drawing parallels between the delegation MPs and Pahalgam terrorists, saying that both were roaming free around.

Rahul Gandhi's persistent demand to make losses, including aircraft, during the Operation Sindoor public was also termed by the BJP and the government as fulfilling the Pakistani agenda.

PM rakes demographic change issue

The prime minister also spoke about the flagrant issue of demographic change, which often makes headlines in political statements of leaders. He asserted that the BJP would not allow infiltrators to grab land and their conspiracy to change the demography.

"The BJP will not allow infiltrators to grab land, insult women and girls, and conspire to change demography, which is a threat to national security," he said.

He also praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for "evicting infiltrators from encroached land and ensuring that farmers can now cultivate on these plots".

PM Modi on Assam development under Congress

The PM also lashed out at Congress for alleged insult to Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. The BJP's double-engine government is committed to realise the dreams of Assam's great sons like Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika', he said.

Modi also claimed that the Congress had ruled Assam for decades, but built "only three bridges" over the Brahmaputra river, while the BJP-led dispensation constructed six such structures in the last 10 years.

PM Modi steps up attack over abuse row

Stepping up the attack on Congress over abusive slogans against him and his mother, late Heeraben Modi, from the Voter Adhikar Yatra stage in Bihar's Darbhanga, the PM said that he is a devotee of Lord Shiva and will "swallow the poison" of abuses.

Taking a 'remote control' dig at the grand old party, PM said, "I know, the whole Congress ecosystem will target me and say Modi is crying again. The people are my God; if I don't express my pain before them, where will I do it? They are my masters, my deities, and my remote control. I do not have any other remote control".
