PM Modi I-Day Speech 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who led the Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort, delivered a record 103-minute speech, making it the longest Independence Day speech to date. Greeting the nation, PM Modi covered major contemporary issues during his I-Day speech from the ramparts of the iconic monument, Red Fort, New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the nation is celebrating the 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025 (Friday). The prime minister unfurled the National Flag at the Red Fort.

Diwali Gift For Taxpayers: PM Modi announced a big “Diwali gift” to the nation in the form of next-generation GST reforms, which will give a major relief to the taxpayers. The reforms, to be rolled out this festive season, will significantly reduce Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on essential daily-use products, aiming to provide direct relief to households and enhance affordability across India. “In the last eight years, we have worked tirelessly to simplify the tax regime. This Diwali, we will take a historic step towards the next generation of GST reforms. Taxes on items of daily public need will be slashed massively,” the PM said in his I-Day Speech.
Nuclear Threat: PM Modi responded to Pakistan's nuclear threat, saying India will not tolerate the nuclear blackmail. "We are not going to tolerate nuclear threats and blackmail. Now, it will not work. If enemies continued to conspire against us, our armed forces would decide how to deal with them," he asserted during his I-Day speech.
Obesity Concerns: PM Modi said obesity is emerging as a major challenge for the country and that everyone must contribute to the fight against it. Addressing the nation on the 79th Independence Day, Modi said that according to experts, one in every three persons would be obese in the coming years.
Indus Waters Treaty: PM Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan over continued cross-border terrorism and nuclear posturing. Referring to Islamabad’s recent rhetoric on water sharing under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), he said, “Khun aur pani ek saath nahi bahega” (blood and water cannot flow together), making it clear that India will not tolerate provocations.
Trump Tariff Row: The prime minister called for embracing the mantra “Daam Kam, Dum Zyaada” less price, higher quality, as India faces heightened tariff tensions with the US. He said India must prove its mettle in global markets by producing cost-effective, high-quality goods to secure a stronger foothold despite tariff challenges.
Operation Sindoor: PM Modi hailed the heroes of Operation Sindoor in his speech from Red Fort at the 79th Independence Day celebrations. He said, “I am proud that today I got an opportunity to salute the Indian Armed Forces of Operation Sindoor from the Red Fort. Our brave forces have punished the enemy beyond their imagination.” “On April 22, in Pahalgam, cross-border terrorists infiltrated and killed people after asking about their religion. They killed husbands in front of their wives, killed fathers in front of their children. The entire nation was filled with rage. Even the whole world was shocked after the attack,” he added.
Job Opportunities For Youth: PM Modi made a big announcement for youth. He declared a new employment scheme for job seekers. He said the government will launch "Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY)", asserting the immediate implementation of the scheme reflects the government’s drive to foster a strong employment ecosystem in both the private sector and wider economy.
