Raghav Chadha News: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, along with two other AAP MPs -- Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal -- joined the BJP on Friday, in a big setback to the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit. BJP National President, Natin Nabin, welcomed the three leaders into the saffron brigade. 

Nabin marked the occasion by distributing sweets to the MPs. The leaders discussed formal procedures related to their merger and parliamentary alignment with the BJP.

Raghav Chadha today announced that he is quitting the Aam Aadmi Party, citing "suffocation and lack of opportunity to serve people in the outfit that he founded with Arvind Kejriwal a decade ago."

Chadha further announced that 2/3 members of AAP have resigned and will join the BJP soon. The seven MPs who have defected from AAP include Raghav Chadha, Swati Maliwal, Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Rajinder Gupta and Vikramjit Singh Sahney.

"We have decided that we, the 2/3rd members belonging to the AAP in Rajya Sabha, exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP. The AAP that I gave 15 years of my life. Now the party has stepped away from honest politics. I am the right man in the wrong party. I am moving away from the party and going close to people," Raghav said.

Soon after, the leader, who stirred a political earthquake, explained the 'real reason' for quitting the party and said, "I am telling you the real reason as to why I distanced myself from party activities. I did not want to be a part of their crimes. I was not eligible for their friendship because I was not a part of their crime."

"We had just two options - either quit politics and give up our public work in the last 15-16 years, or we do positive politics with our energy and experience. So, we have decided that we, the 2/3rd members belonging to the AAP in Rajya Sabha, exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP," Chadha added.

Reacting to the development, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal slammed the BJP and alleged that the ruling party at the Centre has once again "betrayed the Punjabis" In a brief post on X, Kejriwal expressed his disappointment, "BJP ne fir se Punjabio ke sath kia dhakka" (The BJP has once again given Punjabis a shove).

The move came days after AAP removed Chadha as Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha.
