The Supreme Court of India’s official YouTube channel appears to have been hacked and is currently displaying videos promoting XRP, a cryptocurrency created by US-based company Ripple Labs, as reported by Bar and Bench. The apex court uses the social media platform for streaming live hearings on significant cases before Constitution Benches and matters of public interest.
Recently, the top court streamed live the hearings of the suo motu case on the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder. However, the videos of the earlier hearings have been made private by the hackers. YouTube is currently showing Ripple on the search of Supreme Court.
When the viewers searched for recordings of the hearings, they found all previous videos had been set to private. The videos were replaced by a live broadcast titled "Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION".
In recent years, hacking incidents targeting popular video channels have become alarmingly prevalent, with scammers increasingly using these platforms to deceive viewers. Ripple itself took legal action against YouTube for its inability to curb hackers impersonating CEO Brad Garlinghouse. The recent hacking of India’s official YouTube channel highlights growing concern over digital security and the responsibilities of platforms in protecting their users from malicious activities.
