Tamil Nadu Special Trains: Southern Railways has announced the introduction of additional trains to enhance travel options during the festive season. Among these, a special service will operate from Chennai Egmore to Tirunelveli, departing at 11:45 PM on January 11 and arriving in Tirunelveli at 1:00 AM on January 12. The return service will leave Tirunelveli at 3:30 PM on January 12, reaching Chennai Egmore at 2:40 AM on January 13. This train will make stops at several stations, including Mambalam, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Tindivanam, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Trichy, Dindigul, Kodaikanal Road, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur and Kovilpatti.

Another special train will run between Tambaram and Nagercoil, departing Tambaram at 11:35 PM on January 11 and arriving in Nagercoil at 9:20 AM on January 12. The return journey will commence from Nagercoil at 12:00 PM on January 12, with the train expected to arrive in Tambaram at 12:05 AM on January 13. This service will also stop at key stations, including Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur, Kovilpatti and Tirunelveli.

Additionally, a special train from Chennai Central to Madurai is scheduled to leave at 3:00 PM on January 11, arriving in Madurai at 5:00 AM on January 12. The return train will depart Madurai at 7:00 PM on January 12 and reach Chennai Central at 9:00 AM on January 13, stopping at various stations along the route.

A further special service from Chennai Egmore to Madurai will depart at 10:45 AM on January 11, reaching its destination at 7:15 PM. The return is set for 8:30 PM on the same day, arriving back at Egmore at 4:40 AM on January 12.

Bookings for all these special trains will open at 8:00 AM on Friday, January 10, 2025.
