Udhampur Bus Accident:  At least 30 passengers, mostly students from a nursing college suffered injuries on Tuesday when a mini-bus skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in the Farma area of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. The incident took place around 12:30 pm when the minibus was headed to Udhampur from Salmari, where it met the accident near Farma village.

Authorities, including police, fire department and administration, launched a rescue operation and admitted 30 passengers to the nearby Associate Hospital of Government Medical College. While most patients were reported out of danger, the condition of 3 remained critical, BJP MLA of the region Pawan Gupta said.

"..We received a call regarding the incident. 20-22 of them are nursing students. 30-35 people are injured and 3 are critical. We will give them the best possible treatment..." Gupta said as quoted by the news agency ANI.

Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai said that the primary investigation pointed out brake failure as the reason behind the accident.

"Our teams rushed to the spot as soon as we got the information. Preliminary investigation reveals that the incident took place because of break failure, it will be investigated further. People have suffered injuries. Our priority is to give people the proper treatment. 3-4 people have major injuries," she said.

The officials further said that an inquiry would be constituted to ascertain the facts behind the mishap.
