Uttarakhand Weather: After nearly a week of heavy downpours, Uttarakhand is likely to see some relief as rainfall activity is expected to reduce from Monday. The Meteorological Centre said the weakening monsoon trough line has lowered the intensity of showers in the state. However, heavy rain is still predicted for certain mountain districts.

Officials said light rainfall may continue in the plains, while parts of Pauri, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Nainital are under a yellow alert on August 18. Forecasts also suggest that many other districts could receive heavy showers over the coming days.

According to the weather department, rain activity will continue across the state till August 21. Meteorologist Rohit Thapliyal explained that the weakening trough line would gradually reduce the intensity of rainfall, though intermittent showers are still expected across the hills and plains.

Uttarakhand Weather: Impact Of Heavy Rain In Tehri District

The intense rainfall over the weekend caused severe disruptions in New Tehri district. On Sunday, at least 60 motor routes were blocked due to landslides and waterlogging. These included stretches of the important Rishikesh-Gangotri and Rishikesh-Badrinath national highways.

Public Works Department officials said 36 of their roads and 24 routes under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) were affected. While repair work allowed traffic to resume on 32 routes during the day, 28 roads remained blocked till late evening.

Besides road closures, electricity and water supply were also hit in several parts of the district, adding to the difficulties faced by local residents. Authorities said restoration work is ongoing, but continuous rain has slowed progress.
