Thalapathy Vijay Oath Ceremony: The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai came alive today as thousands gathered to cheer for Tamil Nadu's new Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, as he took oath after a historic performance by his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in the recent assembly elections.

In a significant sequence of events, the ceremony included a full rendition of 'Vande Mataram', followed by the national anthem, 'Jana Gana Mana', and the state song, 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu'.

Alignment With Centre's Guidelines

The sequence followed the Union Home Ministry's order in January, which mandates that all six stanzas of 'Vande Mataram', written by Bengali poet Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, be sung first whenever the national song and national anthem are to be played together.

The Centre is observing the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, which played a historic part in the struggle for freedom from British rule.

Recently, the Union Cabinet approved an amendment to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, granting Vande Mataram the same statutory protection as the national anthem.
