In Aromatherapy, we use a lot of essential oils to address different concerns and conditions that we may have. When you inhale certain essential oils, it stimulates your olfactory system which connects to the brain. This part of your brain regulates your emotions, stress responses, heartbeat, blood pressure etc. Essential oils like lavender, ylang ylang etc promote relaxation by increasing the production of serotonin and dopamine which helps reduce stress and anxiety, thereby controlling blood pressure.
Dr Blossom Kochhar - Pioneer in Aromatherapy and Chairperson of the Blossom Kochhar group of companies explained how essential oils help in lowering blood pressure levels. She listed 5 essential oils to deal with high blood pressure caused by hypertension.
Essential Oils To Reduce High Blood Pressure
Lavender Essential Oil: It is known for its calming and relaxing properties. It can help reduce stress, anxiety, depression or nervousness. Hence, it is one of the best essential oils to use in case of hypertension.
You can add 2-3 drops of this oil in the diffuser, you can use a few drops and mix it with a carrier oil for a relaxing massage.

Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil: The calming properties of ylang-ylang essential oil are known to reduce stress and anxiety. It has shown significant improvement in low blood pressure and maintaining a regular heart rate.
You may add a few drops in your bath water for a relaxing bath; you can apply a drop or two at your pulse points such as wrist, neck, or temple as well.
Sandalwood Essential Oil: It is known to promote mental clarity and emotional balance, and helps in reducing stress and anxiety. This is one of the reasons you feel calm and relaxed when you are at the temple or spiritual place.

You may use sandalwood essential oil in a diffuser with a carrier oil. You can dilute sandalwood essential oil with water and put it in a spray bottle and you can use it as a body mist.
Bergamot Essential Oil: Bergamot is known for its mood-uplifting properties. This may help in reducing stress, anxiety and depression.
You may use this oil in the diffuser near you or a few drops on a tissue or cotton ball can provide quick relief from stress and anxiety.
Neroli Essential Oil: This oil again promotes relaxation and emotional balance by reducing stress and anxiety. The soothing aroma of this oil helps you calm down.
You may use a few drops of Neroli essential oil in your bath water to help you relax. Dilute Neroli essential oil with any carrier oil and apply it to your pulse points for a calming and relaxing effect.
