Foods That Have More Caffeine Than Coffee: Almost all of us begin our days with our favourite cup of coffee. It is because it provides our bodies with a jolt of energy and stimulates the nervous system to boost energy levels, keep us alert and prevent sleepiness. The presence of caffeine in coffee helps in stimulating the nervous system, muscles, heart and other body parts that control the blood sugar levels. A 100-gram dark chocolate contains around 43 msg of caffeine, however, the amount varies depending on the type of chocolate. Chocolates are prepared with liquified cocoa, which is abundant in caffeine content.

2. Cola Nut

According to WebMD, cola nuts are the seeds of the cola plant. It is used widely in West African countries as part of cultural traditions. It is also used to make medicine for a variety of ailments. Cola extract is a common flavouring ingredient in caffeinated sodas and energy drinks.

3. Soda And Other Energy Drinks

The same amount of Mountain Dew contains 55 mg of caffeine. The soft drinks that we consume almost daily such as Coke, Pepsi and others, contain caffeine. The Harvard T.H. Chan states that a 12-ounce can of regular or diet dark cola contains about 40 mg of caffeine.

4. Tea

Tea is one of the most loved and consumed beverages in India and across the world. The majority of us cannot survive our day without drinking our cup of tea. ea contains natural plant compounds called polyphenols or tannins, which slow down the release of caffeine. Drinking tea gives longer-lasting effects of caffeine, compared to what you would feel after drinking coffee, as per WebMD.

5. Guarana

Guarana is a seed from a South American plant that contains about four times the amount of caffeine that is found in coffee beans. It is processed as an extract in foods, energy drinks, and energy supplements. Guarana also contains theophylline and theobromine, which are chemicals similar to caffeine.
